Wood and Design ー Masterpieces of Design with the Oda Collection

Since ancient times, people have crafted a wide variety of tools from wood. Thanks to its ease of processing and warm texture, wood has long been cherished as a material for everyday objects. Particularly in chair design, it has evolved as one of the most representative materials, achieving progress in both functionality and aesthetic form. This exhibition focuses on the unique characteristics of wood while introducing iconic designs created across different eras and regions, alongside the designers who brought them to life. From the refined woodworking techniques of Hans J. Wegner to the elegant curves of Arne Jacobsen, the organic forms of Alvar Aalto, the fusion of industrial technology in the works of Charles Eames and Ray Eames, and the simple, practical beauty of Sori Yanagi, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the relationship between wood and people through the diverse philosophies and expressions of these designers. Through the Oda Collection, we invite you to experience firsthand the diverse ideas and creative expressions of the designers who have shaped some of the world’s most celebrated masterpieces of design.
